Welcome everyone to Chapter 1 of Conversations With Liam: Revisited. If you haven’t gone through them already, I’d encourage you to go back and watch the eight covers from my original project, Conversations With Liam as these songs will be expanding from that original story told.
Here we go once again through Liam’s past journey! And the first song that kicks off this extension project is Reply To This. A song that was teased by Charlie in 2020 through an acoustic version of the chorus on livestream as well as an official TikTok snippet of the pre-chorus and first half of chorus. Never again sadly, was the song heard after 2020. Yet fan’s continued to ask and plead for it, it was clear those 2020 songs had an impact.
In early 2022 however, Charlie came out and confirmed it was no longer coming out in an interview only to later backpedal when the third album (CHARLIE) had came out in October. He finally mentioned the song again in both the Zach Sang Show interview as well as responding to a fan who asked during the intimate pop up concert in London. Turns out, he really did love the song along with all the other 2020 songs, but with the record label transition in 2020 as well as the business heads forcing him with trying out different versions of the record, they sadly also never ended up coming to fruition. However, here we are though in 2023 and after Charlie repurposed That’s Not How This Works, not long after Reply To This and numerous unreleased CP songs from 2015-2023 were leaked. Version 3.0 and 4.0 of the song leaked, but this cover will be replicating the 4.0 version as it is closer to the final version which is rumoured to be called 6.0 and was revisited by him in 2022.
Enough talking about the song’s state, time to talk about what it means to me. Reply To This represents the time in both 2018 and 2020 in the lead up to and after the rejection of both romantic interests in the respective years, showcasing the downfall of beginning to lose someone you have interest in. The classic texting game making us overthink, feeling awful not being replied to on time whilst you see they’re clearly active on social media. The dread we feel when you’re left on seen and knowing they have the upper-hand in not feeling the same way you do. A tropical beat resembling We Don’t Talk Anymore yet lyrically a song of absolute pensive anxiety. This song brings back those moments when I was alone in my thoughts, both in 2018 and especially during the pandemic in 2020.
With that, I appreciate you all coming along the journey once more and I can’t wait to share the next few songs that’ll be a part of Revisited.
