KidsDiscuss.com shares 7 ways successful parents listen. They are thoughtful communicators. They follow the 70% Law. 70% of a conversation is listening. 30% is speaking.
Parents who don’t listen are the worst communicators. To be heard they may yell, lecture, or interrupt. Kids turn them off. Everybody loses.
In this short video. each parent models 1 easy way to listen. Let the images soak into your memory. Then practice the ones you need. Let your child get used to your new way of communicating. Notice when your youngster starts listening to you.
Any parent can be a thoughtful listener. The benefits are many. Yelling, lecturing, and interrupting are unnecessary. Children learn to listen because their parents model it. Conversations flow. Kids seek closeness with their parents, ask for advice, and take on their parents’ values. Everybody wins.
Be a successful communicator. Start with listening. You CAN do it.
