Crocodiles to guard death row drug dealers in new prison
WASHINGTON (SINCLAIR BROADCAST GROUP) " Indonesia's top anti-drug official has proposed building a special island prison for drug dealers on death row -- a prison that would be guarded by crocodiles.
"You can't bribe crocodiles. You can't convince them to let inmates escape," said anti-drugs chief Budi Waseso, quoted in The Guardian.
"We will place as many crocodiles as we can there. I will search for the most ferocious type of crocodile," he continued.
India Times suggests Indonesia has some of the world's toughest anti-drug laws, "including death by firing squad for traffickers."
In April, authorities executed eight convicted drug smugglers, most of whom were foreign citizens, according to Fox News.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the proposed prison will also leave inmates to mostly fend for themselves in a Hunger Games-style competition in which food parcels would be floated toward the island.
The Telegraph reports plans for the prison are still very preliminary with neither a location or planned completion date decided.
The whole idea is reminiscent of a scene out the 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die.
Officials will likely hope inmates are less sure-footed than 007.
