https://www.flippingfifty.com/hnb-cha... Power Strength Training for Older Adults | New JAMA study Power strength training demonstrated. Listen, if the words "power training" have you thinking you need to master a clean-and-jerk or a snatch, or go to a box gym ... relax!
.
If you have a good foundation of strength, you're ready. (IF you don't have a good foundation or you need a reset: LINK IN BIO to 10-Day Hot, Not Bothered challenge now!)
.
I shared recently.. a study published this week by JAMA suggests POWER training (see below) is also associated with documented and self reports of improved function in adults over 60.
.
POWER means the use of speed + strength training. It's shown to enhance metabolism AND bone density AND function better than slow and controlled. Consider whether it's appropriate for you.
.
The exercises I demo:
Squat
Bent Over Row
Chest Press
Bridge (no equipment)
.
I show traditional repetition timing of:
1-2 second lift
3-4 second lower
Average repetition range for optimal results is 6 seconds.
.
Adding power, the first phase of moment, the concentric/lifting weight phase, is explosive.
Let's be clear however... it is UNDER CONTROL!
