Sowing tomato seeds for seedlings requires following several basic rules:
1. First, determine the expected date for planting the seedlings in their permanent location, taking into account the seedling's age and the additional days needed for germination.
2. Important! The optimal age for seedlings is 45 days! At this stage of development, plants are no longer as susceptible to diseases as they are after planting in the soil. One cluster will be well-formed, most likely already bearing flowers. When transplanting seedlings at this age, the earliest cluster is not lost.
In our case, planting is scheduled for March 1st, so we sow the seeds on January 5th.
3. Sow the seeds in 96-cell trays to obtain wider, stockier seedlings. Sow the seeds in soil at a temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F). This is the optimal temperature for good, uniform, strong seedlings. After sowing, water the plants with warm water. The next step is to cover the trays with plastic film. This technique helps retain moisture and maintain an optimal soil temperature. The seeds don't dry out and germinate early.
