January 15, 2019. Ten days have passed since we planted the tomatoes, and it's time to learn more about watering, feeding, and supplemental lighting for tomato seedlings.

In just 10 days, we have healthy tomato seedlings with open cotyledons, and some plants are already developing their first true leaves. This indicates that the plants are growing and developing well, thanks to optimal growing conditions—temperature and supplemental lighting.

We grow seedlings without the use of retardants, which ensures healthy and strong seedlings.

Several types of lamps are suitable for supplemental lighting for seedlings:
sodium lamps
LED lamps
fluorescent lamps
We use sodium lamps, which are closest to natural light. The lamps should be placed at a height of 70 cm to 1.4 m. One such lamp is sufficient to illuminate 4 square meters of greenhouse. Supplementary lighting regime: At the stage of knee formation, supplementary lighting is provided 24 hours a day. After the first cotyledons appear, it is provided 20 hours a day. A rest period of 4 hours is recommended, as at this stage of development, the plant requires both daylight and night. Gradually, daylight hours should be reduced so that by the time of transplanting, daylight hours reach 16 hours a day.

Temperature regime: 16°C at night and 20-22°C during the day. Maintaining this regime greatly influences the formation of the first and subsequent clusters, as well as the overall development of the plant.

Water as the soil dries. Fertilize with a formula of NPK 11-40-11 + micronutrients.

These simple agricultural practices will help you grow healthy and strong, tall tomato seedlings.
