Gotham’s City’s most popular villain, the Joker is back on our screens. This time he belts out not only his signature crazy laugh, but also several songs, in Joker: Folie a Deux.
In this episode of ReelTalk, Ben reviews the sequel to the highly successful 2019 Joker movie, in which Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix returns in the lead role as Arthur Fleck, alongside love interest “Lee” (full name Harleen Quinzel, who we all know better as Harley Quinn), played by pop star Lady Gaga (A Star is Born).
Director Todd Phillips also returns to helm the film, which is set after the events of the first movie, where Joker is now locked up in Arkham Asylum for the murder of five people, which is where our psychotic love birds meet.
“Folie a deux”, in case you were wondering, is a fancy French way of describing shared delusional disorder, a psychiatric syndrome where a delusional belief or psychosis is shared between individuals.
Does the sequel live up to the hype of the original Joker movie? Does Gaga give the Harley Quinn character as much justice as Margot Robbie’s version? And is this the start of a new genre of musical comic book movies? Ben answers two out of three of these questions. WATCH NOW and subscribe for more movie reviews.
