It Ends With Us: mediocre book, worse movie
Tune in this week for a brutally honest review of Blake Lively’s latest film, It Ends With Us.
Based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel of the same name, the film stars Lively as Lily, a woman mourning the recent loss of her dad, and struggling to heal the childhood trauma of watching him abuse her mum. Lily meets the charming and enigmatic neurosurgeon Ryle (played by Jane the Virgin star Justin Baldoni), who also directs the movie. Ryle’s dogged pursuit of Lily results in what initially appears to be an idyllic relationship. But there’s something not quite right – is the good doctor a McDreamy or a McScary?
Tensions escalate further after a chance encounter with Lily’s first love, Atlas (played by Brandon Sklenar), once a homeless kid and now a former marine who runs the hottest restaurant in Boston.
So what does Ben O’Shea think? Is It Ends With Us destined for great things, or will it join the long inglorious list of airport novels that make mediocre movies?
