James Ernest of Crab Fragment Labs explains the rules to Pirate's Bluff, a simple bidding and bluffing game with fast action and no turns.

The Pirate's Bluff deck includes eight copies each of ranks 0 through 8. Players receive hands of cards and play a single card face up to start the round. The low card bids first, and then any player may bid or call the existing bid, playing without turns and as quickly as they want.

A bid is a number of cards of a certain rank, like three 5's or four 3's. To raise the bid, you must raise either the rank of the cards, or the quantity. If you raise the quantity of cards the rank can drop lower (five ones is a higher bid than four sixes). When someone calls the bid, the round is over, and the winner pays the loser a penalty equal to the size of the bid. Sometimes the bidding is over in just a few seconds.

You can download the rules to Pirate's Bluff, and dozens of other unique games, from Crab Fragment Labs. You can also buy two versions of the Pirate's Bluff deck from our friends at DriveThruCards.
