This academic contest was proposed, trained by ISLab. The rule of this contest is robot must be automatically shoot down the moving targets on the convey which have color and shape as required before.
To deal with the rule, the 2-DOF ball-throwing robot was built. At first, the front-facing camera was used to capturing the image of the targets. Then, the color and shape of them were identified using image processing techniques (color segmentation, edge detection) with Matlab. The programs also output the coordinate of the target being requested and calculate the pan and tilt angles for the robot. After that, commanding the Arduino to control the actuator shooting at the target in real-time.
The experimental results showed that the prototype can shoot down targets with high accuracy in indoor environments.
