Italian is a Romance language from the Indo-European family that evolved from Vulgar Latin. It's the least divergent Romance language from Latin, along with Sardinian. Italian is an official language in Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, and parts of Switzerland. It has official minority status in Croatia and parts of Slovenia. The standard Italian language originated from 12th-century Tuscan literature, and its modern form was shaped by more recent developments, though its core grammar and lexicon remain similar to those used in 13th-century Florence.
Gallurese is a Romance dialect from the Italo-Dalmatian family, spoken in Gallura, northeastern Sardinia. It is often seen as a southern dialect of Corsican or a transitional language between Corsican and Sardinian. While it shares morphology and vocabulary with southern Corsican dialects, its phonology and syntax resemble Sardinian. Additionally, Logudorese Sardinian, Catalan, and Spanish influence one-third of its vocabulary.
