This shows you how to balance a telescope using a Spring Balance which is available from AWR Technology.

This should be done at setup and whenever the payload changes. It is advisable to have slipping clutches to allow this to be done easily and is illustrated here by our PEM mount in an observatory in daylight.

It is an easy process and once shown you should be able to master it straight away. Radial balancing requires a bit more thought but when carried out properly will stop your telescope stalling at certain positions in the sky.

Finally, the spring balance is not widely sold in the astronomy market but we have selected a particular one as being suitable and should be part of your kit.
