Today we share one of Ravel's most elegant and beloved pieces: the Sonatine (1903-1905). In this short piece, Ravel reinterprets the sonata form by delaying the arrival of the second theme until nearly the end of the exposition. Moreover, the exquisite modal treatment of both themes, combined with bold parallelisms and extended chords in the transition, challenges the label of "classicist" often attributed to him by several contemporary critics.
