Today, we share with you one of Jean Sibelius's most popular pieces, the independence hymn Finlandia. In this symphonic poem, Sibelius masterfully employs bombastic effects and warlike rhythms right from the start. However, as the piece progresses, we reach a beautiful, hymn-like passage that transitions into a sweet, serene chorale. This section became so popular that it was later adapted as a standalone piece, featuring Finnish lyrics, as well as serving as a Christian hymn and even the national song of the briefly-existing African state of Biafra.
