Another lock down shopping trip, same boring local lap of the town as I usually take. Slightly longer route to getting there in order to at least let the bike get to working temperature and charge the battery. Mechanical sympathy.
I try not to share footage that shows me doing something dodgy, but here I question my own actions. Not that I broke the rules, I was under the speed limit and did not cause another vehicle to change direction or apply their brakes.
Just making progress.
35 years ago or so I remember doing a training day with the local council road safety training officer and local Police riders. Just a short ride through the lanes around the local countryside being persuade by a local Advanced Police Riding officer and assessor. I was faced with a situation of taking an opportunity to overtake that although giving us a clear road, potentially meant me passing a horse further up the road faster than I would have liked. So I showed caution. Result was for the next 3 miles we were stuck behind the car. On my appraisal post ride the comment was "standard I expected from you, very good, could have made that car!"

Now I do not question his observation, would have been nice to enjoy a clear road. Here I seek the same, looking ahead I knew that there was potentially enough road to make a pass if clear, so when it was seen to be clear I took the opportunity. But as I committed a car came into view.
I could have chosen to abort the second overtake, that would have meant braking and pulling in, in a split second I made the choice to get past the second vehicle as well. Now recording this means I can judge myself in hindsight, something I now do a lot of as the recording does not lie about events. Although the foreshortening of the lens can portray a distorted view.

I question that was making progress so important? Great to fault myself in hindsight and tell myself that the overtake was not necessary, harder to control decades of "making progress" and the quest for an empty road to play on.

Rest of the footage is uneventful, there are little details that I notice included for training discussion points. The 1st "Spot the difference" clip can be found here -    • Spot the difference   but this has become a standard lockdown route in order for "essential shopping" trips so you will find the route well travelled in other recent clips. Everyone being different, which is also a point I try to share.
