I (Literally) Outgrew My Nintendo DS, And That's OK
Christmas 1998 introduced me to Pokémon Red/Blue and the Game Boy Color. 26 years later, during my game preservation project, I found some unexpected joy in the Nintendo DS and discovered why it's so important to keep our consoles for as long as possible.
The Nintendo family of handhelds, from the Game Boy all the way to the Switch (and soon to be Switch 2) have had one thing in common - how easy it is to play games. If you owned these consoles, chances are you have many nostalgic memories of growing up with them, even if you don't own them anymore.
I distinctly remember playing my yellow Game Boy Color and Pokémon Red. I have various fragmented memories of raising a Charmander into a Charizard, ignoring the five other Pokémon on my team except the unfortunate soul loaded with HMs, and brute forcing the Elite Four and hoping that I didn't run out of flamethrowers or Fire Blasts before the end.
