Looking for ideas to find a mentor? Ruth Gotian, Ed.D., M.S., the author of The Financial Times Guide to Mentoring with Andy Lopata, discussed this with me on Episode 83 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast and she mentioned the following that may help:

🔷 Mentors are everywhere, you just have to keep an eye out and connect - "Now, where can you find a mentor, wherever they're interesting people? … Where do you find friends? You don't think about it. You just go about your day and you connect with people ... 61% of effective mentoring relationships happen organically",

🔷 Be prepared - "you need to come prepared to those situations. Now, you need to be able to talk about something, not in a way that it's transactional, ... people want to help those who they know, like, and trust. And people want to mentor people who show that they are curious, show that they're motivated, show that they will outwork everyone, show that they want to do this. Those are the people that mentors want to mentor" and

🔷 Find commonalities - "Now, the way you do that is actually not by talking about yourself. What you want to do when you meet someone is have a conversation where you find where you are connected, how you gel, what is that overlap that you have with the other person? Maybe it's a favorite food. Maybe it's a favorite vacation spot. Maybe it's something that they're wearing. Whatever it is, there's a way to connect."
