Last month was the hottest April on record, capping an 11-month streak of global monthly records. 2030 carbon emissions targets loom large for businesses and governments. So do rising insurance and other costs from events like August’s fire that razed the town of Lahaina in Maui.

Future scenarios – plausible, challenging and decision-useful stories about the future – have become crucial tools for assessing risks, opportunities, and financial impacts and for testing policies and the resilience of business strategies.

Join WSP’s Matt Raeburn and Chau Nguyen as they describe examples of how WSP has been supporting clients to develop and use future scenarios, including:

– the Ministry for the Environment’s digital Climate Scenarios Toolkit for central government agencies, developed by WSP to inform policy development and decisions
– WSP’s Future Ready® – country-specific, evidence-backed insights into emerging trends – used to develop scenarios, and
– workshop facilitation tools used with clients performing climate scenario analysis, which WSP recently used with External Reporting Board (XRB), the climate disclosures standards-setter for Aotearoa New Zealand.

Together with WSP's cross-sectoral specialists, future scenarios help organisations to navigate complexities of climate, technology, resources, and societal changes to test strategic resilience, to inform decision-making, and to help future-proof organisations.
