A man from Sagamihara City was detained in Siberia for three years immediately after the end of the war.
In the concentration camps, or gulags, strict work quotas were imposed and they were not given enough food.
The older and weaker people were the first to collapse.
Of the approximately 575,000 internees, 55,000 are said to have died during the Siberian internment.
A 97-year-old man from Sagamihara City who survived the gulag in the bitterly cold temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius continues to share his valuable experiences in hopes of preventing a repeat of war.
