Trek Domane 2021 SL5 A first look (pics and video only)
Hi there folks it's been a while, thought I would toss up a short video give a quick update. Been cycling indoor all winter on the tacx and did a few nice long outdoor rides then covid hit and put an end to all that. Several months later it's June 2020 and I purchased this new Domane, I wanted to build it from a frame up but it's near impossible now to buy certain parts and the shipping times into Canada are close to 6 weeks. So after much research I decided to buy this model based on geometry, it's a close match to my last bike and it's got a high stack which I like and the reach fits me just right. I'm not totally sold on the color but it's growing on me 😉 One thing to note is this is a Taiwan build frame and the SL4 is china made, there was a big difference in finishing.
The other close contenders were the salsa warroad but without being able to see it in person I couldn't pull the trigger. I do like the warroad for the mounts but the bare frame was the same cost as the tiagra bike without any explanation. I did consider the Norco search (too chunky) and cannondale topstone (the geometry didn't work for me) , a Chinese carbon frame that didn't make sense once I realized it had mounts dropouts but nothing on the seatube, and a strange derailleur mount and finally the Canyon Grail which still isn't available in Canada!
So I will be selling some of the stock parts and swapping some nice ones over as well as trying to find a decent set of carbon wheels for a good price, if you know of any let me know in the comments.
