Virology - The Study of Viruses
Eight U-M Medical School researchers joined 150 virologists from around the country in signing a commentary stressing the need for expert voices in the discussion around so-called gain-of-function virus research. The controversy over this research stems in part from a debate over the origin of SARS-CoV2, the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic. This type of virus research has led to numerous benefits for human health and the health of the planet, as detailed here by postdoctoral fellow Dr. Sam Porter, a member of Dr. Andrew Tai’s lab.
