It’s back-to-school time for communities across the country, and whether your schools started weeks ago or are just getting ready to, we hope to provide some insight into what school safety means, how to think about school safety planning and what the research shows about implementing school safety strategies effectively. We timed this event for back to school time, but we hope that what our experts will offer today will help year-round.
Presented in collaboration with the U-M Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention and the School of Public Health, this virtual discussion will include the evidence base behind school safety strategies, how to best tailor your school safety plans and share some tools available to school communities.
This session features three experts:
Cynthia Ewell Foster, Ph.D., Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and director of the Community Engagement Core at the Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention
Justin Heinze, Ph.D., co-director of the National Center for School Safety and associate professor in the School of Public Health
Hsing-Fang Hsieh, Ph.D., MPH, research associate professor and co-director of the Training and Education Core at the firearm institute, and the Evaluation Director of the National Center for School Safety
