The story of Bloodborne portrays a direct encounter with the world of the unconscious. This encounter has the potential to enrich the psyche, creating a path towards the wholeness of our selves. It also depicts strivings to eliminate chaos and overcome the mystical by conquering it with intellect. However, when this process goes wrong, the psyche is thrown into one-sidedness. This is depicted as becoming either a beast on one hand or a Great One on the other: A striving to surpass humanity that collectivises the individual. In our world, this is a huge threat of the AI and technology. Bloodborne prompts us to ask: Where does humanity begin and where does it end? Is it always good wanting to know more? What about the consequences of all-pervading knowledge and the elimination of the unknown that comes with it? Bloodborne shows us that it may lead to a world of utter darkness; a regression into the unconscious...
