This video is about confronting my physical limits and pushing beyond my fears. It's a little different than most of my videos. Instead of addressing an emotional issue, today I am addressing a physical boundary that I am working to overcome. Let me say that trying backflips for beginners is scary! I've heard people say that backflips are easier than front flips but I beg to differ. I think it just depends on which you learn first. I just so happened to learn front flips first, and go figure that I find them easier than backflips.
I went to a trampoline park with my two kids and we all overcame our fear today. Theodore was afraid to do a flip into the foam pit, Charlotte was afraid to jump off the tall platform into the foam pit, and I was afraid of doing a backflip off the tall platform into the foam pit.
My mantra at the trampoline park was, "action cures fear!" All three of us did the action we were afraid of, and I am so proud of my children for getting out of their comfort zone. I know that by getting into the habit of facing our fears, we will be able to tackle any challenge and any obstacle. If you can't tackle the small things, what makes you think you will be able to tackle the big things.
Start by getting into the habit with small things, then you can eventually graduate to tackling larger challenges. The only thing holding us back is our protective minds, trying to keep us in our comfort zone to keep us safe. Most of the time, there is no real danger so go and do the thing ANYWAYS!
If someone has invited you to do something that you have never done before, say YES and try something new. Put yourself in uncomfortable situations to help yourself get used to it. You aren't helping yourself by sticking to everything that is familiar, everything that you are already good at. You are NOT growing that way.
