Triac is a bidirectional device and is used to control the ac power. Triac is basically equivalent to two SCRs connected in antiparallel.
Diac is called ass a Triac without gate or gateless triac. It is used mainly for triggering the triac. As triac can work on both positive nad negative gate current, diac a bidirectional device is used in the gate triggering circuit of Triac.
Triac finds extensive application in real time systems. They are mainly used as fan regulators, light dimmers and in ac drives.
