At the end of May 2023 we spent 2 1/2 days in Lofoton. We stayed in Svolvaer. This town is small. Everything is about a 4 minute walk away. We stayed at the Thon Hotel Svolvaer, which is right beside the Thon Hotel Lofoton. The Lofoton Hotel is right on the main square. It also happened to be a holiday weekend while we were there. We flew from Tromso to Bodo to Svolvaer. What we didn't know was there was a stop between Tromso and Bodo, in Stokmarknes. Our flight from Tromso had about 12 people on it, and everyone spoke in Norwegian. So when the plan landed, everyone got up to get off. So, we did too. Once inside we sat down for a minute. Moments later a man appeared in front of us asking us something in Norwegian. We looked at him and he switched to English. It ends up we weren't suppose to get off the plane, it was a stopover. We had to go back through security and then back onto the plane and continue to Bodo.
Once in Bodo we realized that Gemma lost her passport in Tromso. During a holiday weekend. It ends up that the Tromso police close on Sunday and then Monday lost and found was closed. On Monday we contacted the Canadian Embassy in Oslo, who helped us get set up with paperwork to bring to the Canadian Embassy in Copenhagen when we returned on the Wednesday. It ends up you can fly from Norway to Denmark without any ID. We also had to wait until we got back to Copenhagen for a passport photo.
So on the Monday we had a nice day and went on a tour of the Lofoton Island. That evening the sky was so blue! We had our first look of the midnight sun, however, the sun went behind the mountains, so we couldn't really see it.
Tuesday it was raining and cold and our tour was cancelled. We sat in the bakery, Gemma relaxed in the hotel and I looked in a few shops. We were excited for dinner because it was Tuesday night which meant Pizza night at the hotel restaurant! We knew we had to go! One final pizza meal in Norway, before heading back to Copenhagen.
Lofoton is beautiful! If you are heading to Norway, I would highly recommend adding a visit to your trip.
