With automotive grading, it's always about attention to detail. I try to isolate different elements to bring focus to the vehicle and make sure it looks the very best I can make it. A lot of the time, I'm relighting the vehicle's surface and making sure emblems and the grill stand out. I like to darken the windshield to take the focus off the driver and give a cleaner presentation. It's also essential to make the most of the background. In some, that means balancing out and creating depth in the cityscape beyond. In others, it's about getting as much latitude out of the sky as possible. Sometimes it's also helpful to create some haze in the background to pull attention forward. With stronger contrast, it's important to find a balance so the shot doesn't get too busy. Intensity everywhere in the frame can look kind of cool at first but with industrial equipment in the background and foreground, it's harder on the eyes. Best to focus attention right where you want the viewer as quickly as possible with short clips like these.
