One of our greatest discoveries. Kidd's Orange Red is a beautiful apple in every way. It is susceptible to scab, nowhere near as bad as Spartan though.Crops are regular and can be very heavy. A mid season apple ripe from late September to Christmas. Really ripe specimens have a hint of violets as part of the rich and complex flavour mix. This is the best alternative to Cox's Orange Pippin, which is arguably the most perfectly flavoured apple but is very hard to grow.
If you can't grow Cox (and I can't) grow this instead.
