Apple variety James Grieve
Dual purpose apple, bruises very easily so must be handled with care. Used to be widely grown as a pollinator for Cox, this is a reliable cropper and gives good pollen. Excellent cooker in August/early September, ripens to make excellent eating late September/ October. The late John Seymour, aithpuot of Practical Self Sufficienty, the 'good lifer's bible' wrote that this was his favourite apple.
