How to get drinking water from snow in winter - enhance your wilderness survival skills by learning three easy methods that provide you something to drink in difficult conditions.
Consuming water in winter is as important as in any other season, because dehydration is quick to come. Dehydration happens when your body doesn't have as much water as it needs. Without enough, your body can't function properly. You can have mild, moderate, or severe dehydration depending on how much fluid is missing from your body. That is the main reason why you need to be well hydrated even in winter.
But if you are camping, where do you find water then? From snow and ice? Right, but keep in mind, that consuming cold food or liquids can cause hypothermia. And always remember, that the snow might not be clean.
So how to get clean water in the forest? Actually there are are not many ways for purifying water in the Forest. When You have fire and kettle or some other metal container then it's easy – just collect snow and melt it on fire. Remember – fresh snow is mostly made up of air so You need a lot of snow to have a decent amount of water and for purifying it you need to boil it for at least ten minutes. But how to boil water in the forest without pot or any other metal container? You can use plastic bottles and bags as well. Just do not do that too often, because it is not good for your health. If you do not know how to boil water in the forest or if you do not any means available, then you have to take a risk and use any water you can find.
You can use a bottle or a thermos or a flask for melting snow. First collect snow into the thermos or flask. Whenever You take a drink, scoop up some clean snow and put it to bottle. The heat of the remaining water in the bottle and the body heat inside the coat are enough to melt the snow and replenish the water supply. You can also collect snow for example into Your bandana. Open the bandana and fill the middle of it with clean snow. Tie or pin the four corners of the bandana so it holds the large snowball. Now, using a branch, suspend the bandana near the fire. Soon the heat of the fire will start melting the snow and it will start dripping through the bandana. Use a cup or other container to catch the dripping water.
