Starting a quick fire outdoors is easy even without matches. Like when you plan do do some bushcraft camping and cooking. All you need is a ferro rod.
A ferro rod works under almost any conditions and has a long life span. If you got the technique down how to light a fire with a fire steel, magnesium rod or ferrocerium stick or whatever you want to call the fire starter, then it is really easy lighting a campfire.
But how to use a ferro rod? Take your fire rod and scrape of the black material covering it. If you have done that, you can now proceed to making your fire with ferro stick. Hold the fire rod close to the tinder at about a 45-degree angle. Place the scraper or the back of a knife near the top of the rod, so it makes solid contact with the rod. Pull the rod back away from the tinder with a slow and steady motion. Sparks will emerge. And that's all. Now you move on to building a quick fire outdoors.
