Vodka Collins performing the title track of their 1997 album, Pink Soup. Filmed in Tokyo Japan, this clip was aired frequently on Japanese television that year. The band are- Alan Merrill (lead vocals, lead guitar), Monsieur Kamayatsu (electric 12 string), Masayoshi Kabe (bass guitar), Hiroshi Oguchi (drums). Like the rest of the Pink Soup album, the song was written by Alan Merrill of Vodka Collins in the studio during the sessions while they were recording the album.
The album Pink Soup was a spontaneous compositional exercize, a conceptual art experiment, and all the songs on the album were written by Alan Merrill and recorded by the band over a three day period, including the mixes. The band didn't sleep at all over those three days, and the recording engineers worked in 12 hour rotating shifts.
Vodka Collins worked together on and off over many decades until drummer Hiroshi Oguchi passed away in January of 2008. Monsieur Kamayatsu passed away in March 2017. They recorded five albums. Tokyo-New York, Chemical Reaction, Pink Soup,
Boy's Life, and Boys In The Band.
