This video is about prepping the jon boat for bottom paint. I was going to make one long video from start to finish but it would have been way too long.

So this is the first part of putting a bottom coating or a bottom paint on your jon boat. This jon boat is an Alumacraft 1436lt riveted jon boat, and I am going to be putting the Wetlander Slick Bottom Coating on this boat as the bottom paint.

The first step is cleaning the boat and taping your edges so you know where you want to paint and where you don't. If you're doing the same Wetlander kit as I am, I have a primer and a topcoat, so make sure to do multiple layers of tape.

Secondly, I started sanding it down. I used a Bosch Random Orbital Sander - https://amzn.to/2I7qlqM or @ Walmart https://bit.ly/3b8gyyf and then with 120 grit pads - https://amzn.to/2rrEAk6 or Walmart - https://bit.ly/3fxzCK3 . It took me around 8 hours to sand this 14 foot 36 inch wide riveted jon boat. Don't let that intimidated you though. I do work slow, and if you have a friend it will go much quicker.

Once I got it sanded down, I wiped it with down with Acetone and then lacquer thinner. The acetone was melting the paint and smearing it around. The lacquer thinner wasn't as aggressive so that is mainly what I used.

Then you're ready to paint! That's the next video though... stay tuned in!
