Tolerance analysis is a methodology used in product design to understand how imperfections in parts during the design and manufacturing phases impact a product's ability to meet customer expectations and requirements.
It evaluates how variations in part dimensions and manufacturing/assembly processes propagate and how the resulting changes impact the requirements and quality of the finished product.
This is achieved using spreadsheets with lengthy and tedious processes. It usually requires a significant investment in managing all product requirements simultaneously and keeping them updated. Furthermore, a spreadsheet has significant problems managing geometric tolerances and is unable to exploit statistical results.
There are new approaches to perform chain calculations quickly, easily, and, we might even say, "fun."
Performing a complete calculation during the design phase allows for cost reductions in subsequent production and quality control phases.
