The Goonvrea Singers, whose repertoire includes music for all tastes, was formed by Joyce Robson. Her professional expertise as a trained singer and qualified pianist has led the group to many successes, including the Cornwall County Musical Festival Gold Cup and the Cheltenham Music Festival Gold Award. Recently, they gained second place at the Elgar Choral Festival in Worcester Cathedral.
The Singers' principal function is to entertain and help worthy causes. Concert highlights include the Three Spires Festival in Truro Cathedral and the Summer Festival at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. A unique venture took the singers 2,500 ft. underground at South Crofty Tin Mine, near Camborne, to sing choruses from the "Messiah".
For almost 20 years Joyce Robson was Musical Director of the Camborne Circuit Ladies Choir retiring from this position in 1997, which coincided with Joyce being awarded the Scos an Orseth, the Gorsedd Shield for services to music in Cornwall.
