This early movie from the Edison company purports to show Thomas Edison at work in his laboratory. In fact, the equipment here has been brought into the Black Maria studio to create the mise en scène by which the industrialist and accomplished self-publicist could promote his eponymous brand in the new medium of moving pictures.
