Poverty exists in many forms, which is why VISTA’s model is driven directly by communities in need. Due to this, VISTA members need to understand the concept of cultural humility so they can thoughtfully and respectfully work within their communities, build strong relationships, and seek community input to carry out their VISTA assignments effectively. This course will help define and differentiate between cultural humility and cultural competence as well as explore the consequences of approaching VISTA work without cultural humility practices.
