I've been on an unintentional streak of uploading unrated levels recently, so here's another one! I first found imitation game around three months ago when it released, but it hasn't gotten much attention since then. I thought about it again two days ago, and decided to beat it. Heatherhayes is a very talented creator who I've known of ever since they released their first solo level "prismatic". However, this is actually the first level of theirs that I've ever beaten, and it was a much better experience than I could've expected. The gameplay is very well made and is insanely clever in the ways it tricks the player.
The song representation in this level is fantastic. I love the effect in the second part (11-33%) where the structures get copied and pasted into other locations. It's simple, yet super effective, and fits well with the repetitive melody of the song. The part afterwards, with its background consisting of several flipping rectangles, is also very satisfying to watch. That's a common theme throughout this level. It uses effects in extremely clean ways that I haven't seen in any other levels released in 2.2. This level does so much with so little, and that's made apparent by the object count, which is only 5203.
While imitation game is super learny, I really enjoyed it overall. It feels very close to an Extreme Demon, but I would say it's just a very high-end Insane Demon. The hardest part for me was the short cube section from 74-77%. It's only a few timings, but they definitely stick out from the rest of the level as being very difficult. The part that follows this (78-100%) is very high-CPS, and might be a turn-off for many people. There are some other weird gameplay choices, like the teleporters that correct your position in the dual ship at 67% that I think the level would be better off without. This level also uses a song that isn't on Newgrounds, and the replacement song isn't the greatest unfortunately. Nonetheless, this is an absolutely fantastic level that I hope will soon get the rating it deserves! (As of 6/30 this is now featured!)
