UPDATE 9/18/2024: I had taken the OceanGate video series down because too much was based on the "leaked transcript", which I was never fully convinced was legitimate, and now that the hearings by the US Coast Guard and NTSB has began, it appears to now be proven a fake after viewing a 3D animation with the actual text communications. I am bringing some of these videos back by request.

Some detailed information on the acrylic viewport that was used in the OceanGate Titan. Hopefully this clears up some questions that people have about it. Rush was on his own as far as the actual rating on it - it was way off the chart as far as that goes. I'll also explain where the commonly quoted "it was only rated for 1,300 meters" originated. Keep in mind, we don't know how many versions there were of the acrylic viewport.

One thing to note: the technical term for the shape of the view port, per the ASME publication "Safety Standards For Pressure Vessels For Human Occupancy", is "conical frustrum". It's just one of many types of viewports that could be used.
