Wetzel County Jane Doe | Mysterious WV
PLEASE SHARE! Following a heavy snowstorm, the body of an unknown female was found along US Rt. 250 in Wetzel County, West Virginia on February 13th 1983. Police estimated she had been dead for at least 2 days. The body was closely examined and photographed. Police theorized that she she may been a prostitute from the Wheeling and Pittsburgh areas or may haven fallen afoul of the Hari Krishna religious sect. The location where her body was found is not far from the Krishna's famous Palace of Gold known as New Vrindaban.
Both her postmortem photos and composite sketches appeared in area newspapers. All known photos and hand drawn images of this Jane Doe are feature in the following presentation.
This Jane Doe was found to have recently been fitted with a full upper plate of dentures. Police were dismayed to find that the model numbers and other information concerning such devices were not kept. The case of The Wetzel County Jane DOE would lead to laws making is mandatory for such numbers and records to be made and retained by the manufactures and dentists alike.
Acting Investigator Corporal (Now Sergeant) William Henderson with the WV State Police was kind enough to speak with us concerning this tragic murder, and to provide us with "guidance" concerning the focus of this feature.
The West Virginia State Police still consider the case as open and are continuing to pursue new leads. The Wetzel County Jane Doe has yet to be identified. Today she is buried in a plot provided by a loving couple in Paden City, WV who "Adopted" her in 1994. Her fate and name remain a mystery. This is her story...a story much in need of an ending.
