Episode 3: The Rite of Turnabout
They venture to the home of the high priest....and his wife was still in mourning. Rayfa clearly states that this is a very pressing time for her as she just lost her husband....but Wright was running low on time. Thus instead of pressing her now, he simply decides to wait until she's ready. After going around the room, aside from the altar there were several points of interest: the wanted poster on the table, Maya's bag, and a lovely piece of art.
Just then, Ms. Inmee was finally ready to talk. But on the matter of why someone may murder her husband...that's when he saw it: Psyche-Locks, locks of the heart meant to keep out secrets. He knew what he had to do....
It seems that the warning letter was indeed intended for the high priest...but that would mean he was suspected of being a member of the rebellion. Fearing this, his wife hid that fact to avoid suspicion. But still...if he wasn't a rebel, why was the warning sent? Just then, Nayna gave Rayfa a message; the queen has summoned them to perform a rite of passing for the high priest. And Wright came along as a plus one (can't exactly argue with the royal priestess here).
Upon entering the throne room....the queen herself gave quite a commanding presence as she came to greet them. As she, Rayfa, and Buh'leeb leave to perform the Rite of Lament.....Wright gets a man-to-man talk with Chief Justice Inga. Not only is he the Chief Justice, he's also Ga'ran's husband and Rayfa's father (I'm guessing this is where Rayfa got the attitude from). And while the DC Act may or may not have been made by him, he's still enforcing it...as it was a way of dealing with falsified evidence. Quite a fear-inducing law did keep crime low, but it still felt off...but Wright wasn't going to back down now. He said he even had a secret weapon against the rebels...though what is uncertain.
Looks like talking to Maya also gleaned some insights into the channeling bit too: turns out her channeling art was derived from Khura'in's style when it made its way overseas. Since Channeling is something only the royal family could do, she hid that fact so as not to cause an uproar. She had a lot to prove once her innocence was proven...a final trial before taking her mantle was the Fey Clan's new leader. There was also a bit of a "cultural exchange" between superhero fans (in other words, a rare merch swap).
So, once again, he faces another life-or-death battle in the court of last rites. Will he pull another victory, or will it be his final trial?
