Before the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Grant was assessing Ukraine's military reforms, pointing out and helping them get rid of the old Soviet structures that were leading to poor training and inefficiency. In 2023 he is supporting the Ukrainian Parliamentary Defence Committee.

Some of the photos in this clip were from the last roll of film uploaded by Ukrainian photographer Maks Levin. During a mission to document the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine in Kyiv Oblast, Maks was detained, interrogated, possibly tortured, and executed by Russian soldiers. His friend, Oleksiy Chernyshov, who was accompanying him, was likely burned alive.
