After my recent trip down part of the North Branch of the Thames River in London, Ontario I got to work installing my canoe outfitting. I learned a few things going down the river without the outfitting setup with the two most important being:

1) How much I missed being more connected to the canoe with proper thigh straps and kneeling pads

2) In shallow water getting pinned seems a lot more likely then in deeper stuff. As a result I missed knowing that I had proper airbags installed to hopefully help prevent a boat pinning.

As you can see in this video I installed the kneeling pads and thigh straps. I also installs the airbags that I would use if this was being setup as a tandem boat.

It was also interesting to try a few self-rescue drills to see how it worked in a boat equipped with more floatation. You will notice the temporary use of a center airbag for this video as well.

Enjoy!
