Vlog4 - GoPro External Mic Test, Lane Changing & Art Distribution
My 4th vlog in which I test out how well a cheap tacky £3 microphone works with the GoPro Hero3+ Silver.
I toyed with the idea of placing a microphone on the gearstick for some time, but as you can tell from the video it doesn't really work. I thought that having it near the seats would be enough as it is further away from the vents near the bottom of the windscreen, reducing wind noise. However, the voice level is about the same because voices are projected forwards, and placing the mic lower down means it is not directly in front of the soundwaves. You also get the annoying clunky sound of the gear stick. Pinning the microphone to my tshirt is a lot better, but you have to work around the wire, and if you haven't set it up perfectly then it gets in the way when driving. An ideal solution would be to extend an arm out from the dashboard and have it fitted there with the wire running down the arm, but that will require a bit of thinking as it needs to be low enough to not obscure the view of traffic.
