How Switches Really Process Frames || Hub And Bridge And Switch || VLAN 2
Learn about the mode of operation of a bridge/switch on a Local Area Network and its importance. This second video in the VLAN series, will also show you the basic concepts about the operations of hubs, bridges, and switches on a Local Area Network.
Compared to a hub, a bridge is more intelligent, as it does not always have to repeat a received signal to all the end stations connected to it. A bridge is capable of forwarding data frames received on its port to the intended destination, by reading the destination MAC address of the frame and sending out the on the port where this end station is attached based on a special database. This capability makes the bridge a layer 2 device, as opposed to a hub which a layer 1 device as it cannot read layer 2 information.
