I've sat on this for a few months now thinking I would re-do it but one thing led to another and I'm not sure I will, so, here is the version I have... We all remember GLs song on the Fitzgerald but many years before that one of Americas first nuclear sub went out to sea after some problems were corrected in tests and never came back, it was eventually found at about 8400 ft under the water, all hands lost. Sadly, a few years later the sister ship SCORPION was also lost at sea, found later almost 10000 ft under sea, two sailors survived that as they had to leave the ship in Spain for personal reasons, I wonder how they felt where they got the news.

(I think I had too much verb, delay & missed phrases, that's why I was going to redo it...)

Am C G
Oh, the Thresher, the finest atomic ship
Am C G
that ever dived for the sea,
Dm C Fmaj7
Each man on board was a volunteer,
Am G Am
Was there 'cause he chose there to be.

Chorus:
C G
Every man jack on board was a hero,
C G
Every man jack on board there was brave,
C Dm Am
Every man jack on board was a hero,
Am G Am
Each man risked a watery grave.

Am C G
Oh, their wives and their sweethearts came down to port
Am C G
their last fond goodbys there to say
Dm C Fmaj7
Each tried her best to be tearless and brave,
Am G Am
They promised to meet there someday

---- Chorus

Am C G
Then "dive" said the Captain and we held our breath,
Am C G
A sound like she'd broken in two,
Dm C Fmaj7
That was the last we ever heard of her,
Am G Am
Last word we had from her crew

----- Chorus

Am C G
Oh, the Thresher, yes, now her reactor is still,
Am C G
But very good company she keeps,
Dm C Fmaj7
Men from the Lexington, Hornet and Wasp,
Am G Am
Are lying down there hith her in the deep.

Chorus
