In the history cinema, animation has helped directors show differences. Differences between what? Objects and people, for example. But mainly between animals and people. It has always been a classic fictional topos.
But in the end, even the objects and animals of cartoons and fairy tales are human beings in disguise. Yet, the fact that these are human except for their appearance helps to show certain human characteristics that would otherwise be overlooked. It gives you that little bit of distance to be aware of.
Cinema has dared even more. The real touchstone for us living, are the dead.
It is the job of cinema to make you look at things from unusual perspectives, and what could be more extreme than putting yourself in the shoes of a dead person?
Well, Tim Burton is a master of this. Let's have a closer look.
