In this video, we will understand the magnetic effects of electric current using Hans Christian Oersted's Experiment Using Compass. This demonstrates Electromagnetism.

Some 200 years back, electricity and magnetism were seen and studied separately.
However, in 1820, Hans Christian Oersted, a Danish physicist and chemist, accidently discovered that electric currents create magnetic fields.
That was the first connection found between electricity and magnetism.

We did the similar experiment as done by Oersted using a compass to observe that:
1) When electric current flows through a wire, it behaves like a magnet.
2) This magnetic effect decreases when we move away from the wire.
3) The direction of magnetic field is opposite above and below the wire.
4) If we reverse the direction of current flow, the direction of magnetic field also reverses.
5) More the current flowing through the wire, more the magnetic effect produced.
