The Black Paintings. This is the name given to the famous series that Francisco Goya painted in oils directly on the walls of two rooms in his country house in Madrid between 1819 and 1823. These were private paintings, created to satisfy the reflections and tastes not of a client, but rather his own. These works are shrouded in mystery.
