LAB Curves for Subtle, Safe and Easy Control of Tone and Colour
The LAB colour model is often seen as something exotic and difficult, but actually it is surprisingly easy and useful in practice. Based on how the eye-brain connection works, rather than having Red, Green and Blue channels (which the eye recognises as inputs), it creates channels for Lightness (monochrome), A-process (magenta-green), and B-process (yellow-blue). When using this with the Curves adjustment, it is surprisingly difficult to produce an unrealistic result, while a range of pleasing colour grades can be created.
